Second Icon-Class Ship Will Have a Furry Family Member
Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. For example, the ship features smart elevators, which were a first-of-its-kind tech when the ship debuted. The smart elevators allow you to pick your deck before you board, and then they direct you to the appropriate elevator option out of a handful. Fewer crowded elevators and a faster ride to your destination.
Carnival Horizon Departure Ports
Signup sheets for all classes that will take place during your cruise are available. Free classes covering things like stretching and Zumba take place throughout your cruise (usually held in the Atrium). These aren't as intense as the paid classes and offer a nice way to start your day. Personal training and nutrition consultation also are available, for a fee. Carnival Horizon also offers the fleet's only smart elevators.
Deluxe Ocean View (Obstructed View)
Perhaps it was because the ship was new, but the mattresses felt thick and supportive, giving us a great night’s sleep. There are other for-a-fee dining options, of course, and not all of them are the average Carnival offerings. Among the suite options, there are the newer Havana Cabana Suites and Family Harbor Suites. These are two special types of suites that first appeared in the Vista class, that offer a few fun, new features.
Decks and Cabins
The venue fills up when food service ends, and when the main theater show finishes. While there is room to dance, we found that most people were content to simply watch the band and sing along. The bar also hosts the ship's naughty "adult game" as well as beer pong, where the competition is intense. While we expect interior cabins to be small, we were still a little surprised at how little room there was. Other interior cabins we’ve sailed in have a small sitting area with a couch.
It butts up against the Dr. Seuss WaterWorks space, which has colorful seats and umbrellas. Overall, the interior cabins on Carnival Horizon are clean and comfortable, albeit small. What stood out to us was that our room had two outlets and two spots for charging via USB. Considering many older ships just have one outlet for the entire cabin, this is a nice change given the amount of electronic devices we all travel with today.
Premium Balcony
Carnival Vista was known for several new features, including the SkyRide (which you can read about further down) and the first IMAX theater at sea. There were also new Cuban-themed staterooms, as well as more entertainment options than ever before. But isn’t it a great time to stay connected and share the good times you’re having with everyone back home? That’s why your Carnival cruise gives you options for just how in-touch you want to stay. There's also a creative corner, with tables and hand-washing stations, for arts and crafts. Carnival Horizon boasts a capacity for 3,960 passengers on a normal, double occupancy sailing, with room for 5,101 passengers maximum and with a gross tonnage of 133,500 GT. Nearly 1,500 crew travel aboard Carnival Horizon during a normal sailing. Carnival Horizon is the 47th largest cruise ship in the world, tying with sister ship Carnival Vista. Decor for Cloud 9 Spa cabins on Carnival Horizon is designed to be tranquil, with soothing marine blues and greens, and pastel yellows, along with light wood and soft finishes. Each suite, which accommodates a maximum of two people, includes a sofa, armchair and table as well as a walk-in closet.
Where does Carnival Horizon sail from?
Guest entertainers might wander the ship, providing personalized fun. (We adored the close-up magician, who boggled our minds with his illusions.) The Liquid Lounge turns into a dance club some nights, complete with DJ. Horizon Casino, located on Deck 4, is open when the ship is at sea. It's got lots of slot machines along with table games like blackjack and roulette. The ship also has a large arcade, on Deck 6, that features air hockey and drive or shooting video games.
The Family Harbor suite is a good option for both families and traveling groups of friends. The suites sleep up to five guests and offer connecting rooms, and separate washrooms allow for some family members to take care of their business while others may need to take a shower. Family Harbor guests enjoy additional access to a private Family Harbor lounge. A spot that's intriguing by night and friendly anytime, step into the Havana Bar and be transported to antebellum Cuba preserved today in old postcards, vintage literature… and classic delicacies. Take in great ocean views as you try something authentically Cuban, like cafĂ© Cubano (that’s Cuban coffee!) or handcrafted Cuban cocktails (think daiquiris, mojitos and more).
There is no controllable vent in the bathroom, so if you need to have some white noise while you go, we suggest turning the shower on low. You can also use one of our tips and head to a public bathroom on the ship if you don’t want smells to linger in the cabin. Starting before we even opened the door, the ship features RFID-style door locks. As you enter, you must put a card into a reader to turn on the lights. This helps to keep you from leaving the lights on when you aren’t in the room.
Carnival Horizon offers cabin choices in spades, whether you're seeking comfortable and cozy interior space, family- and spa-themed options, balcony rooms, or suites. That said, entry-level cabins start at 185 square feet, fairly large by industry standards, and all room layouts on Carnival Horizon take full advantage of every inch of space so you won't feel cramped. Cabins tend to be pretty basic, with few bells and whistles and little decoration. The ship's 1,980 cabins include 25 accessible rooms across all categories along with hundreds of connecting cabins ideal for family and group travel.
Photo packages, providing passengers digital or print (or both) pictures are available. Lots of fun amenities and activities such as a sports court, a ropes course, mini-golf and a kids club with a variety of age-specific activities, as well as teens and tweens, make this the perfect family cruise ship. Enjoy indoor and al fresco dining, fun bars, thrilling entertainment and more. As you step into a Junior Suite aboard Carnival Horizon, you can't help but feel that you're stepping into full-size luxury in a smaller package.
